PRESENT YOUR ANIMAL HERE:

CATS

Cats has been associated with humans for at least 9,500 years. Until recently the cat was commonly believed to have been domesticated in ancient Egypt, where it was a cult animal.

Cats may be the most popular pet in the world, with over 600 million in homes all over the world. They are also bred and shown as registered pedigree pets. This hobby is known as the "cat fancy."

Cats typically weigh between 2.5 and 7 kg, however some breeds such as the Maine Coon, can exceed 11.3 kilograms. The largest cat ever was officially reported to have weighed in at about 21.297 kilograms. The smallest cat ever officially recorded weighed around 1.36 kg.

                    Maine Coon

Cats average about 23 to 25 centimetres in height and 46 cm in head/body length (males being larger than females), with tails averaging 30 cm in length.

The gestation period for cats is approximately 63–65 days. The size of a litter averages three to five kittens, with the first litter usually smaller than subsequent litters.

Cats are ready to go to new homes at about 12 weeks old (the recommended minimum age by Fédération Internationale Féline), or when they are ready to leave their mother.

Cats are known for their fastidious cleanliness. They groom themselves by licking their fur, employing their hooked papillae and saliva. As mentioned, their saliva is a powerful cleaning agent and deodorant. Many cats also enjoy grooming humans or other cats.

Horses- 10 Reasons why I love them.

There are countless reasons to love the companionship of horses. Here are a few thoughts that jump out at me why I love horses and include horses in my life.

1. Inspiration. Horses are creatures of beauty. Beauty may be in the eyes of the beholder, but horses have inspired artists and poets through the ages. I am awed by the sight of a herd of horses galloping through a field - powerful, independent beasts but stunning to view. They are living art forms that remind us of the natural wonders of the world. This in turn inspires us to live our lives at a higher level.

2. Fun! Some of my best times growing up are doing things with my friends and my horses. We spent hours playing at the barn. Sometimes my girlfriends and I would go to the jump arena and pretend we were horses. Other times we'd be out riding and pretend space invaders were coming after us and we had to outrun them by galloping across an open field. Silly? Yes, but these are fond memories. Horses let kids be kids. They nurture the imagination and enjoyment of life.

3. Riding is all around great exercise. Burning calories and toning muscles while enjoying nature is the ultimate. The combination of barn work, grooming, and regular riding is one of the best kept fitness secrets around. If you ride regularly you can probably save a bundle on gym fees.

There are different riding disciplines that appeal to everyone from the risk taking trick rider to the cultured dressage queen. For others it's a trail ride in the woods to renew their soul. In our family, riding has become a family activity. Its something we do together on the weekends or on vacations. My little sister is growing up with memories of sharing time and life aboard a horse. She's not quite the horse fanatic as me, but she's grown up associating being active with horses.

4. Social life. There are many social activities related to horses. From hanging out at the barn with friends to going to shows or group trail rides, horses keep their owners in touch with other humans. Horses give you an instant common bond with other horse admirers. This bond overcomes cultural cultural and societal differences.

5. Positive mental health and relaxation. I keep horses because I love to ride, but it's not the only reason. Truth is even if I didn't ride I would keep horses because I love being around them. Horses relax you and intuitively seem to know what you need. I have come to appreciate this aspect of horses with the passage of time. As a kid horses meant riding and being with my friends. Now they act as natural tranquilizers - their very presence can lower my blood pressure and improve my mood. I simply enjoy watching them do their normal horsey activities - from munching on hay to rolling on their backs in the sandpitt.

Horses not only bring pleasure, but can provide emotional support. They seem to sense depression and pain in a person and will often react in amazing ways. I remember grieving bitterly when my grandma passed away. My horse was my savior. She would come over to me and stand quietly while I wept. Her quiet emotional support gave me strength to move on and celebrate life as my grandma would have wanted...it took a horse to show me the way.

6. Encourages a Healthy Active Life Style. Incorporating horses into your life is a good way to make to make healthy living part a habit. Horses are dependent on us for care and that forces us to stay active on a regular basis.

7. Sense of freedom and power. Horses free us from many of the limitations of our bodies. Short and dumpy? Weak and frail? Crawl aboard a powerful horse and you're freed from your weaknesses. Having done volunteer work at a therapy riding school I learned the power of the horse first hand. Kids would be shuffled into the barn in wheelchairs. We'd carefully place them on a gentle horse and muscles that didn't work would suddenly respond to the magical movement of the horse. Kids that spent their lives tethered to wheelchairs suddenly could move around aboard the horse. It released them from their chains and brought wide smiles to their faces. The effects may be temporary, but it was stuff of dreams.

8. Horses teach us about ourselves. Horses see our inner selves. They don't care if we are the President of a company or the janitor in the local middle school. They see us as we really are. There is no room for ego with your relationship with a horse. You have to earn their respect. You have to be honest with them and yourself.

 9. Keep you close to nature. Spending time up close and personal with a horse renews your sense of wonder. I can't think of a better way to appreciate the enchantment of life than riding a horse along a mountain pass or across a spring green meadow. If life is tearing you apart, simplify your life by spending time in nature with a horse. Horses are the essence of nature. What better way to return to natural old fashion ways than to ride a horse. They don't make loud mechanical noise or leave nasty exhaust fumes to pollute the air. They don't deplete the ozone or create hazardous waste. Horses are 100% natural and are good for you.

10. Friendship between the species. Those who have experienced a friendship with a horse will totally understand this reason. Take my 13 year old mare. I have had her most of her life and we share a bond. She's been with me through most of the life changing events of my life - the birth of my sister, the death of my grandma - to speak nothing of the sheer hours we've spent just being together. Her welcoming nicker when I head to the barn never ceases to thrill me.

I love horses so much!. They're my best friends.

Animals which fascinate me!

... DOLPHINS ...

"There's something about dolphins.

It is difficult to put into words..."

                     -Mark Carwardine.

The name is originally from Ancient Greek (delphis-dolphin) which was related to the Greek (delphys-womb).

This name can therefore be interpreted as meaning a "fish with a womb"

Dolphins are mammals, not fish. They are warm blooded like man, and give birth to one baby, called a calf, at a time.

At birth, a bottlenose dolphin calf is about 90-130 cms long and will grow to approximately 4 metres, living up to 40 years.

They are highly sociable animals, living in groups, called pods, which are fairly fluid, with dolphins from other pods interacting with each other from time to time.

Dolphins carry their young inside their womb for about 12 months. The baby is born tail first, and its mother will feed the calf for up to 2 years.

However, the calf will stay with its mother for between 3-6 years, during which time it will learn all about feeding techniques, social interaction and group hunting.

How do they behave?

Dolphins are often regarded as one of Earth's most intelligent animals, though it is hard to say just how intelligent dolphins are, as comparisons of species relative intelligence are complicated by differences in sensory apparatus, response modes and nature of cognition. Dolphin behaviour has been studied extensively by humans however, both in capitivity and in the wild.

How do they play?

Play is a fairly important part of dolphins lives and they can be observed playing with seaweed or play-fighting with other dolphins. At times they also harass other local creatures, like seabirds and turtles. Dolphins also seem to enjoy riding waves and surf coastal swells and the bow waves of boats. Sometimes, they also willing to playfully interact with human swimmers.

What do they eat?

After feeding on mother's milk the first few weeks, calves begin eating fish at 3 to 4 months and are weaned at 12 to 18 months. Dolphins feed on all kinds of fish and crustaceans with adults eating 13 to 14 pounds of fish a day or 20 pounds or more in colder winter waters.

Do dolphins sleep?

Traveling as much as they do, dolphins must rest some time. They don't sleep, though. They merely take cat naps at the ocean's surface for two or three minutes at a time. At night, those naps increase to seven or eight minutes.

How long do they live?

In captivity, dolphins have lived as long as 40 years. In the wild, scientists believe they only live 25 to 30 years.

How fast do they swim?

Dolphins typically cruise at 5 to 7 miles per hour, but they have been clocked at 18 to 22 miles per hour with top speeds of 30 miles per hour.

One of the most significant tourist attractions is DOLPHINARIUM. It is a aquarium for dolphins, which are usually kept in a large pool, though occasionally they may be kept in pens in the open sea. A dolphinarium can also be part of a ZOO. It is a great attraction for people, especially for children.

The most interesting thing about dolphins is DOLPHINS THERAPY which is being offered to people with many kinds of illness and disability.

We know that dolphins can't speak, therefore we use feelings to create relationships. The essence of life is more important than the meaning of it. Dolphins are beautiful and graceful creatures that have been on the earth a lot longer than us.

Dolphins have opened the door and bridged the gap between species, offering an entry into their world.

It is easier to love dolphins than ourselves...

I really like dolphins because they're so great and intelligent. They're one of the most intelligent animals in the world. In the future I would like to maybe not to have because it's difficult to make them living but work with dolphins or help people, especially children with their therapy by dolphins or also maybe work in dolphinarium. It's so amazing!

This is a short film with nice song about dolphins. Watch it:D

Animals which fascinate me!

                                                        Anteater

Anteaters are the four mammal species of the suborder Vermilingu commonly known for eating ants and termites. Together with the sloths, they compose the order Pilosa. The name "anteater" is also colloquially applied to the unrelated antbear, numbat, echidna, and pangolin.

Species include the Giant Anteater Myrmecophaga tridactyla, about 1.8 m long including the tail; the tamandua or collared Anteater Tamandua tetradactyla, about 90 cm  long; and the Silky Anteater Cyclopes didactylus, about 35 cm  long. I like this animal because it is funy. J

My favourite animal is a guinea pig.

Guinea pigs are rodents and have nothing do with pigs at all. No one knows why they are called pigs, but some say they look like small pigs. They also do not come from Guinea, but from the mountains of South America. They were brought to Europe by sailors in the 16th century and became popular pets. There are many types of guinea pigs – they differ in fur-length and colour.

There are guinea pigs that have short hair:

And ones that have long hair:

And also the ones that have very, very long hair:

They can be have one-colour fur or multi-coloured fur, like this one:

They are very good pets, because they are friendly, quiet, and easy to care for. They adapt quickly to living with humans, but they do not like living alone, so it’s best to buy at least two of them. When they are in group they often play together, which is fun to watch. They also fall asleep in a pile, and clean each others’ fur.

They like dark, small places, and they like to hide in the corners. When a guinea pig leaves the cage, it will most probably run underneath a coach or behind a curtain. In a way, it seems that they always try to play hide-and-seek with you.

My first pet was a guinea pig named Norka. That’s probably why I like these animals so much.
